Hi there Cam, As an ex screw,in Pentridge, I worked a lot in the ”B’.Division,Maximum Security Management unit, which held Prisoner: Keithy George Faure and his Brother Noel Faure and they were given a A1 OR A2 High security rating. Because they were a contant problem among Prison Officers, in that the were of bad behaviour, cunning, shifty and hard to control, involved in high drug useage and drug and contraband trafficking and often involved, along with other ”B”.Division planning of escapes and organising riots. They had no respect for Prison officers or Police Officers, and had to be contantly watched day and night, because they were always tunnelling in their cells or tying to break though their bars and their cell windows. At night time when these prisoners were locked up in their single cells, the Prison Officers all carried .38 Smith & Wesson, Revolvers with hollow point bullets for maximum stopping power of a escaping inmate, and for their own protection in the dangerous wings or tiers of the very large division. Once Keithy Faure tried to heavy me , one on one, because I had charged him for being involved in a prison being stabbed over Pentridge Drug Trafficking Control among prisoners. I just stood my ground with him toe to toe, and told him to FUCK OFF.!!!………..I didn’t know at that time that he was the top dog of Pentridge Prison, and that he was a contract killer. He was one of these cunning dangerous high profile inmates that were attempting right under our noses, to breach the security of the wings every day and night, by trying to sneak and conceal, even while they were locked up in their cells from 1600hrs(4.00pm and not let out till 0700hrs(7.00am. Also they would be knocking up, or banging on their cells at night to cover the noise of certain escapee prisoners scratching at the walls in the cells to remove large bluestone rocks and make a opening for them to escape through into the prison yard, to escape over the gaol wall. They also banged up on their cell doors to annoy certain Prison Officers that these crims, hated. And tried to disturb the peace in the Division through out the night, and the prisoners were always stoned or high on many kinds of drugs that had been smuggled into Pentridge. ”B”.Division was always on edge, and every day a prison incident or bad behaviour occurred there, and endless violence such as assaults, gang rape, use and concealing of shivs(Prison made weapons, used for stabbing other inmates in fights and power play stuggles or paybacks. The atmosphere in ”B”.Division was always dangerous and tense, as it was the place for most of the Pentridge Riots, and uncontrollable prisoners who were the Pentridge Heavys that controlled all and sundry of the prison corruption and illegal activities. One of the most famous ”B”.Division Prisoners was ”Badness” Christopher Dean Binse. He was a master prison escapee, and had to even be shackled with leg chains and handcuffs and body restraints to retrict his chance of more escapes and hostage taking. His most recent crime on his release from prison was the long 48 hour hostage siege in Keilor Melbourne. He is a very dangerous man, and was a close ally of Keithy Faure, and was also a drug user and trafficker who was always abusive to the Prison Officers, and had to be constantly held in ”H”.Division to keep him under constant surveillance, because he was always a scary and violent bad behaved crim and maximum security escape risk inmate.
Regarding Keith George Faure, he was the most heavy influential crim in Pentridge. He had a reputation as a stone cold contract killer of at least 7 murders that are known of, and ruled every other crim,. He was once the leader of ”H”.Division in the 1970,s in his younger days. His Brother Noel Faure is also a murderer, as was his father. They were all heavy weights in the Melbourne Waterside Workers Union, The Panters and Dockers. In the 1970,s Keity Faure was the racketeer among all the shenanigans controlling, contraband and bashings, standover tactics and murders,in and out of Victorian Prisons. He was a unstoppable force. In the early 1970,s Four Prisoners started up a gang called the Overcoat Gang, whose members were The Leader Mark Brandon Chopper Read, Mad Charlie, Jimmy Loughnan, Ambrose Palmer and a few others, who decided they had, had enough of Keithy Faure and his Painters and Dockers, controlling Pentridge and having all the say and powerplay over them. They stood up to him and his folwers and like crazy men carried any and all sorts of items that could be used as instant weapons, fashioned from metal in the Pentrige Metal Fabrication Workshop. They concealed the weapons, under the prison issued heavy tailor made prison coats, which were made in the Pentridge Tailor Shop. These long heavy thick coat, meant they could walk all around Pentridge and bash any one they didn’t like or who was their enemy. The Screws just looked the other way, and saw nothing. A lot of the Screws didn’t like Keithy Faure and his racketeering. Chopper Read when he was sent down to ”H”.Division planned to murder Keithy Faure and all his henchman, by taking all the ”H”.Division Prison Officers hostage in the H.Div Kitchen, locking them up, taking their cell keys, and entering all the solitary ”H”.Division cells, and ice picking, murdering every prisoner in ”H”.Division. But his right hand man Jimmy Loughnan, switched sides with Keithy Faure and warned him of the attack on him and his gang and the plan never went ahead. If you look on Youtube,”Pentridge Riots”, Jimmy Loughnan is the main aggressor attacking the police on the ”B”.Division Pentridge roof and later arrested for his trouble in planning the Pentridge Riot in ”B”.Division………….. Tough men for tough times in H.M. Pentridge Prison.
In May 1990. Keithy Faure was stabbed by a unknown gang of rival prisoners in ”B”.Division, suspected to be prisoners trying to overthrow Keithy Geore Faures power in Pentridge, which he still held, even while Mark Chopper Read was securely held in ”H”.Division High Security Unit, with a contract on his life by all his Pentridge enemies. Years later in Melbourne Gangland Wars, in the early 2000,s,, Keithy George Faure and his mate Gousis, shot dead Lewis Moran in the Brunswick Hotel with Bert Wrout, also hit but survived. His character is played by Kim Gyngal, or Colin Carpenter in The first Underbelly mini series on the Melbourne Gangland Wars. Also in the Chopper Movie , Keithy George, acted by Dave Mason. is ficticiously bashed by Eric Bana as Chopper Read in the ”H”.Division exercise yards powerplay scene, which is loosely based on how the overcoat gang took control over their enemies in Pentridge….. Keithy George Faure in real life in prison,is now only a getting old, with a damaged reputation as a dog and shadow of his former self now serving a life sentence in jail, over the murder of Lewis Moran. His contract killing days have finally caught up with him. And I have heard he is now branded as the lowest of the low in the prison pecking order of powerplay. His is now known as a Dog.
And even sold out his own brother, to get a lighter sentence. His health is supposed to be very bad also. From charasmatic, wise guy, armed robber, slaughterman, painter and docker, murderer, and cunning shifty heavy enforcer and controlling jail heavy gangster to a worthless prison dog……………………………………………………………………

On Baden-Clay, I do wish for the trial to be over sooner rather than later for poor Allison’s family, to finally see some justice handed down. It was Gittany’s reputation as a self obsessed, deceitful, manipulating narcissist that was the main factor in him being found guilty. There is far more evidence of Self Obsession, Deceit, Manipulation and Narcissism in GBC’s case, so I do not see how any barrister could possibly mount a case that could get GBC off. I just wish he was headed to the Gallows rather than life in prison.

I often wonder if and when we will see some further charges laid for being an accessory to or after the fact of murder as it is patently obvious that there were others involved given his team of helpers the morning after.

Interesting article Admin, and something that as a society we should be thinking about. Spending more funds on rebuilding and supporting our communities and less on prisons perhaps. It seems to me that at the heart of the problem is society breaking down, harsh economic times for the man/woman on the street to make ends meet and raise a family, unemployment and lack of training opportunities, the proliferation of accessible drugs/alcohol and increasing mental health issues.

These are issues that the government needs to take a long hard look at addressing. If being incarcerated doesn’t deter crime (the article says about 55% of prisoners have been imprisoned before and 39% are back in prison within 2 years of being released), it makes sense to look at the underlying causes of crimes being committed in the first place. I accept that there will always be certain members of society who will commit crime, no matter what, but perhaps this is not a large proportion of those in our prison system.

Hi all Off topic, but just finished reading bestseller ‘In Sheep’s Clothing – Understanding & Dealing with Manipulative People’ (George Simon Jr). What a great book…. have had that many light bulbs going off in my head, I could be used in a Christmas display. Will be buying a copy to hand to my son when he’s ready for it.

Gidday Bill, Gee 4 times that is really interesting, you know a lot about Pentridge in the 1960,s and 1970,s. Please write about your knowledge of your time there for other readers here please mate. It would be very appreciated and valued. We need someone to fill the void from the late Mark Chopper Reads story telling and long list of books that never let the truth get in the way of a good story. ha ha. I wasn’t serving as a screw in Pentridge untill 1989. And when I was posted to H.Division, apart from Chopper telling me all his stories, true or false, there is not a lot known about the real life days of Pentridges hard old times, as most of the old screws and crims there in the worst of it all of the 1960,s and 1970,s crims are dead, or were murdered inside its walls!….. When I was there only a few of the old lags of painters and dockers from the old sausage war rivals to Mark Chopper Reads overcoat gang were still serving time down the slot. The slot was filling up with the then new breed of so called heavy weight crims like Matthew Johnson, Bubble Brain Peter Mcevoy, Victor Pierce, Victor Brincatt, Mark Chapman, Craig Minogue, Christopher Badness Binse, Terry Flannery, Robert Larson, Peter Gibb, Juilian Knight, Gary David- Webb, Alex Tsakmarkis who was bashed to death in the H.Division Laundry with bar bell weights in a pillow slip in 1988, by Craig Russell Street Bomber Craig Slim Minogue, and most of the Walsh Street Police Murder suspects their mates of the Graeme Jenson crew the and Flemington Armed robbery crews, of Abbdulla and Valastro families and the certified crims who were moved over to Maximum Security Jika Jika, or K.Division The Fish Bowl, Electronic Zoo, where MarkChopper Read, spent most of his jail time between causing trouble and the overcoat war shenanigans and high protection in H.Division . And his overcoat war mate Jimmy Loughnan, Amos Atkinson, Barry Quinn, Arthur Gallagher, Robert Wright and Peter McCaulay , were to later die of smoke inhaulation, when they barricaded themselves and set fire to Jika Jika. Causing it to be later closed down s a Maximum Security supermax part of Pentridge and turned into a A.I.D. AND H.I.V. & Drug junkies and female unit, re-named K.Division.
About the Painter & Docker and Gunman, Robber and Escapee Gordon Sammy Hutchinson, He must of been released from Pentridge in 1989. As I don’t ever remember him, when I was in H.Division. And I have only heard of his tough reputation as being involved in the overcoat gang wars, with Amos Atkinson, Jimmy Loughnan, I don’t know whose side he aligned with, but he was in H.Division with Mark Chopper Reads enemy Johnny Price, who blamed Chopper for stealing all the H.Division sausages and al the crims missing out on their favourite luxury in the slot at that time. I can remember all the high profile heavy crims in all the divisions of the Pen, and especially H.Division. I think he was one of the hard men of the early 1970,s H.Division, when Keithy George Faure and all the old Painters and Dockers were calling all the shots and and later at each other throats during the 1975, H.Division Christmas lunch, Sausage War and rival factions of unrest down the slot. As far as I have heard, but don’t quote me on this, but I think he was a friend or foe off Johnny Price. I think the only one left of this old gang of hard cases in the slot from the 1970,s, is Greg Bluey Brazel, and Amos Atkinson. Now that Mad Richard Mladnich, Mad Charlie, and Mark Chopper Read are all now, dead and gone, as are the old H.Division screws. I don’t know any crims apart from Keithy Faure or Johnny Price that could prove this right or wrong. Johnny price is now suppose to be still working with the waterside workers on the docks or wharfs driving a forklift. He must be getting on in age, if he is still working. And he never went back into crime. So if he is still alive, he could write a book on Pentridge and H.Division.. Maybe If he ever reads Aussie Criminals, he can ,tell us all about Pentridge in the 1970,s & 1980,s…. That would be good, to get the real story, first hand from the horses mouth. There is a book, written about the tough, hard life in H.Division in the late 1960,s, a few years back by a former prisoner named Doug Robinson and another book was written about years ago, by William, Bill O,mearly, on the H.Division punishment block in its beginnings in 1958 and throughout the 1960,s. It is a excellent read. But I have been unable to find a copy of it yet. Not many of Bills books were printed or survived. Im sure most readers here would find it very eye opening and interesting………
